Do you handle cases outside Utah?
Sometimes. We are a Utah law firm and our lawyers are licensed in Utah. If your case is outside Utah, we may work with a local attorney licensed in your state, as allowed by local rules, and we will explain how the work and fees are shared before anything happens. If we can't help, we will tell you.
Do you have offices in other states?
No. Our only office is at 6925 Union Park Center, Suite 210, Cottonwood Heights, UT 84047.
How much does it cost?
You pay no attorney fee unless we recover money for you. Depending on your fee agreement, you may be responsible for case costs and expenses. We will explain the fee and costs in writing before you hire us.
What standards apply to mattresses?
Federal rules 16 CFR part 1632 (cigarette ignition) and part 1633 (open flame) apply to mattresses sold in the U.S.
Should I keep the product that burned me?
Yes. Keep the product and everything connected to it, and don't hand it to an insurer or manufacturer before talking to a lawyer.
How long do I have to file?
It depends on the state and the type of claim, and some deadlines are short. Contact a lawyer promptly. A lawyer licensed in the state where it happened should confirm your deadline.
Can I sue if my e-bike battery caught fire while charging?
Possibly. If the battery, charger or e-bike was defective or lacked adequate warnings, the maker, importer or seller may be responsible for the injuries. Whether you have a claim depends on what caused the fire and the law where it happened, so keep the battery, charger and receipts and talk to a lawyer promptly.
What if I threw the product away?
You may still have options, but it can make a claim harder. Photos, receipts, order pages, model numbers, fire department reports and witness accounts can sometimes help show what happened. Keep anything that is left, and talk to a lawyer promptly.
Is this legal advice?
No. This site is general information. Contacting us does not create an attorney-client relationship.
Talk with us about what happened
If you or someone in your family was burned or hurt by a product at home, we can review it with you at no cost. There is no pressure to hire us.
